CELLULAR BIOLOGY AND NURSING

Section 1

• Compare and contrast prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, and explain the impact that viruses have on them.

Section 2

Demonstrate that you understand cellular metabolism through explanation of the following areas:

• The role of the cell membrane in regulating how nutrients are gained and waste products lost.

• How animal cells use nutrients to provide the energy for growth, movement, and cell division.

• The role of nucleic acids in the nucleus and cytoplasm.

• This section also requires you to discuss the synthesis of proteins.

Include diagrams to support your commentary where appropriate.

Section 3

Demonstrate that you understand how cells grow and divide through explanation of the following areas:

• The generation of specialised tissues from embryonic stem cells.

• The process of interphase and factors that initiate cell division, and their importance.

• How the same genetic information is received by each daughter cell.

• This section also requires you to compare and contrast cancer cells with normal cells.

NURSING RESEARCH AND EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE (EBP)

For the PICO(T) question developed in Week 1 complete each activity below (Search Terms and Search Strategy). Identify key search terms (and alternate ones) that represent PICOT elements.

This is my Picot question:::For short staffing of nurses (P) does the use of adequate staffing or lowering the amount of patients on assignments (I) reduce the future risk of patient safety and quality of care (O) with comparison of having less staff with a higher nurse to patient proportion (C)?

Search Strategy: Utilizing the key terms in various combinations (for example: population term combined with intervention term or intervention term combined with outcome) develop a search strategy to locate evidence to address your PICO question. Plan to search a minimum of three different databases such as: CINAHL, PubMed, Cochrane Review. Refer to chapter 3 in your Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt for a list of databases you can search. Develop your search strategy using the table below. Post table in discussion forum by Wednesday 11:55 PM EST.

DEVELOPMENTAL PEDIATRIC NURSING

You can have your child as an example.

You have to enumerate and document the changes in this child’s physical growth and emotional, motor, language, skill, social, and moral development (Eric Erikson theory) from the moment he/she was born up to now that he/she is already an adolescent. To obtain these, ask them about stories or experiences of growing up for every age period.

After gathering data, you must discuss and analyze your findings using the different concepts, principles, and theories of growth and development. Do not forget to include citations.
