Case Scenario B – Rabies
Ms. Annie Mabite was seen and treated at the out-patient department facility and was discharged and sent home with medications and follow-up instructions. Nurse Monica who handled the patient happens to be the authorized personal information controller. She is the only nurse with authorized access, a computer password, and a key to the office where a computer is located. This computer holds all the digital charts of the patients seen by the facility. Unknown to the people who work at the facility, Ms. Annie Malbite happens to be a rising star and is about to launch her career in a big broadcasting network. She was discreet with her actions so as not to attract attention. Unfortunately, a nurse named Phoebe recognized her and informed a tabloid writer. This tabloid writer desperate to make a juicy article bribed Nurse Phoebe for information. Nurse Phoebe who is not authorized and does not have a key to the office handled the situation by breaking the door lock and stealing the password from Nurse Monica. The information was then retrieved, illegally.
The next day, Nurse Monica noticed the forced intrusion of the office and the computer opened without her knowledge. Little did Nurse Phoebe know that a CCTV camera was strategically placed inside the office and recorded her crime. She was confronted by Nurse Monica who was then bribed with a huge sum of money to keep quiet. Nurse Monica accepted the money.
